Trump is the Nominee...Time to Accept Reality

At a certain point, you should (I think) accept reality and try to move forward.

A lot of people really hate Trump. They've fought him tooth and nail throughout the primary process. His words, scandals, flip flops, etc. They've all been talked about and exposed ad nauseam, but the Republican electorate that voted chose Trump.

I don't like it anymore than you do, but at a certain point we ought to remember the exhortation of Milton Friedman:

I do not believe that the solution to our problem is simply to elect the right people. The important thing is to establish a political climate of opinion which will make it politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing. Unless it is politically profitable for the wrong people to do the right thing, the right people will not do the right thing either, or it they try, they will shortly be out of office.

So the National Reviews and the Weekly Standards, instead of trying to defeat Trump, should now be trying to create a climate of expectation for him that will both strengthen the GOP's chances of winning and help the American people by creating a better political candidate.

Maybe I'm feeling a little idealistic today.
